Activists in Pune Strive for a Greener City — Anita Ambalavanan

Recently, the Unnati Social Foundation has organized a campaign in Pune, India that strives to raise awareness for a Plastic Free Pune City among Punekars. The Unnati Social Foundation ( aims to implement sustainable, social change–specifically for the lives of women and underprivileged youth. Many of the social issues The Foundation works hard to solve includes Child Education, Youth Empowerment, Women Empowerment, Water Conservation, Rural Development, and Health.

The Plastic Free Pune City Campaign not only raised awareness for a more eco-friendly city, but raised awareness for the simple power of donation. The campaign pushed citizens to do more good by accepting donations of items like clothes, old computers, grain, groceries, clothes, and blankets. All items collected are donated to non-governmental organizations (NGO) working for children and education all over Pune, including Rachana, a Vibha-supported NGO.

The campaign, which was entirely a voluntary effort, was made possible through the joint effort of Vibha and Unnati Social Foundation Volunteers. Under the main coordination of Jyoti Wadmare and Kiran Kale, the campaign can be named a success thanks to the help of all the volunteers and the generous donations. The two head coordinators graciously thank everyone for all of their contributions.

Vibha Project Manager Jyoti Wadmare says that Unnati Foundation and Vibha want to promote ‘volunteerism among youth for the betterment of the society’, and hope to pursue more campaigns and donation drives like this one in the future.
